“Vision. Legacy. Transformation.”

In a world where patriarchy still casts long shadows, few women have dared to step into the highest corridors of power and leave a lasting mark. Attorney General Virginia Mabhiza is one of those rare figures. Her rise to become Zimbabwe’s first woman Attorney General since independence is not just a personal triumph, it is a collective victory for women and girls across Africa.

Breaking Barriers

Virginia Mabhiza’s appointment as Attorney General on 1 November 2023 shattered ceilings that for decades seemed unbreakable. In a society where leadership has often been reserved for men, she has rewritten the script. Her journey is history in motion, proving that determination and excellence can overcome entrenched barriers.

Before this historic appointment, she served as Secretary for Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs from 2013 to 2023, where she built a reputation for competence, resilience, and dedication to the rule of law.

Symbol of Possibility

But Mabhiza is more than a legal mind. She is a beacon for every girl child who dreams of walking into high offices with confidence. Her story whispers to young women: “Yes, it can be done.” She embodies the possibility that ambition, courage, and resilience can open doors once thought permanently closed.

Inspiration Across Africa

Her influence stretches beyond Zimbabwe’s borders. From Harare to Lagos, Nairobi to Cape Town, Virginia Mabhiza’s story resonates with young women who see in her a reflection of their own aspirations. She dared to tread where angels fear, and in doing so, she lit a path for others to follow.

Latest Achievements in Geneva

In February 2026, Virginia Mabhiza led Zimbabwe’s delegation to the 61st Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva. There, she presented Zimbabwe’s second periodic reports under international conventions on civil and political rights, and on economic, social, and cultural rights. She highlighted progress in human rights, economic stability, and social development, while also addressing the impact of sanctions on Zimbabwe.

A Champion for Women’s Month

This Women’s Month, we salute Virginia Mabhiza—the brave warrior who stood tall against the odds. Her achievements remind us that the future belongs to those who refuse to be defined by limits. She is a living testament to the power of courage; a symbol of what women can achieve when they claim their rightful place in leadership.

Hats off to Virginia Mabhiza. She is not just Zimbabwe’s Attorney General; she is Africa’s champion of possibility, inspiring generations of women to rise, lead, and transform the world.
